iNUA #8 - Meeting The Needs of People Walking! Now available in English and Spanish
SUTP accelerates the implementation of the New Urban Agenda (NUA) by publishing a series of Implementation Guides addressed to politicians and practitioners. The compact 4-page documents are designed in a way, that mayors and decision-makers can rapidly gain an overview on the rationale and the practicability of the presented tool, measure or strategic approach. This is followed by practical recommendations on how to initiate implementation and further selected sources on the specific issue. We are happy to announce the publishing of our factsheet #8 on Walking in English and Spanish language.
The most recent publication focuses on the needs of people walking – a mode of transportation that is often neglected in urban planning. However, walkability is the essential ingredient in an integrated, multi- and intermodal transportation system and therefore the foundation of any sustainable city. A walkable city that considers the needs of its pedestrians, increases not only the vibrancy of city life but also the health of its population.
The paper outlines eight key steps on how to make a city more walkable and presents specific actions for Mayors and decision-makers to improve the walkability of their cities.
